History and Objectivity

The dissertation project deals with the importance of objectivity for historiography. For this purpose, a dispositional concept of objectivity will be scrutinized. Objective results presuppose a combination of several epistemic values. The role of these values will be examined using the concept of epistemic virtues. Contrary to the prevailing aversion among historians, the project will thus show that the objectivity of historical studies can be achieved by help of the specific epistemic virtues and due to their fundamental role in the research practice.
